Bringing craft to life at the UBS Art Studio during Art Basel Hong Kong 2025, UBS and the K11 Craft & Guild Foundation (KCG) presented a special commission by renowned fashion designer Guo Pei and esteemed National-level Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritor of Guangcai, Master Tan Guanghui, pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship to reinvent Chinese porcelain for future generations.
Glazed Splendor
Date:
28th Mar 2025 - 31st Mar 2025
Venue: 1/F Concourse, UBS ART STUDIO, Convention & Exhibition Centre, 1 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, China
The commission Glazed Splendor pushes the boundaries of craftsmanship, reimagining the heritage craft of Guangcai, and rejuvenating Cantonese porcelain for future generations. After intense rounds of revisions to achieve desired shapes and forms, 6,000 pieces of hand-painted Guangcai porcelain tiles were used to create the gold-themed couture gown; it features floral motifs of peonies and edelweiss, representing China and Switzerland respectively, symbolizing a contemporary blend of cultures on the occasion of 75 years of Swiss-Chinese relations.
